For over 40 years, the Political Science Department has been running a program connecting Adelphi students with semester-long internships in Washington, D.C. through an excellent program with The Washington Center. Students from any major prepare by taking a few courses in political science on campus in Garden City, are considered for eligibility (GPA, etc.), and then matched with internships that speak to their research and career interests. Students intern with members of Congress, the Department of Justice, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Financial Services Roundtable, and more! Students get wonderful learning, networking, and career-building experiences.
Joseph Orlando interned at the office of Congresswoman Nita Lowey in the Fall 2015. On his second day there he was sent to a congressional briefing on World War One and its impacts on present geopolitical conflicts.
Eric Priest joined Representative Adam Kinzinger’s congressional office last Spring semester. He is so grateful to have learned how legislation is created, supported foreign affairs projects and attended congressional hearings. This life-changing experience led to his goal of working in a local government office one day and possibly returning to Washington D.C. in the future.
Many more students are interested in and eligible for this program than can afford the extra expenses of housing and living in D.C.
Ron Lee, Adelphi University Chair of the Board of Trustees, is generously matching $1,000 raised on Giving Day to help them get there.
Thanks to Ron, your gift of $10 becomes $20, $25 grows to $50 and $75 doubles to $150!
Here's how your gift can help students have this wonderful experience:
$25 covers the weekly commute of a student from the dormitory to the internship
$60 supplies a student's internship application fee
$100 gives a student a week of groceries
$1,500 pays for a student's month of lodging
$6,000 supplies a student lodging for the entire semester
Thank you for your BIG giving day gift!
