Help four Cambodian girls to go to school
It began as a class project...
and has transformed into an annual campaign to improve the lives of underprivileged girls in Cambodia.
Each year, students from Professor Caracciolo's first-year seminar "Becoming Human" are challenged to think critically about the world in which we live. In 2012, a student suggested Girls Be Ambitious, a program facilitated by World Assistance for Cambodia, as a possible social action project. Beginning that year, and continuing for the past seven years, Professor Caracciolo's class has been fundraising to support the education of four girls in rural Cambodia. By providing their families with incentives to encourage their girls to stay in school, the organization hopes to break the cycle of poverty and reduce the girls' risk of exploitation.
Here are photos of Romam Aun, Bros Mengly, Chhorng Srey Noch and Un Sreyneth, the four students who are getting an education because of the generosity of Adelphi students.
Girls Be Ambitious now has six girls who are ready to begin school, but their families can't afford the tuition. An education will not only open their eyes to a whole new world, it can save them from the horrific human trafficking trade.
Please help the first-year seminar "Becoming Human" class raise $1,800 to allow the already sponsored four Cambodian girls to continue their education for the next year AND welcome the six new girls to school for the first time.
$15 pays for a girl to receive an education for 1 month
$45 pays for a girl to receive an education for 3 months
$90 educates a student for 6 months
$180 will let another girl begin her education for 1 year
$720 continues educating all 4 girls' schooling for 1 year
$1,800 funds all 10 girls' schooling for a full year
Take a minute to think about what your Adelphi education means to you. Please consider giving someone else that gift. Thank you!
