The Hy Weinberg Center for Communication Disorders has been providing low-cost speech, language, hearing evaluations and therapy for patients of all ages and all types of communication disorders for decades. Now, we are looking to better support our aging community as they rehabilitate from strokes, brain injuries, Parkinson’s disease, neurological conditions, dementia, and head and neck cancers by treating the swallowing difficulties that are often part of these recoveries.
The purchase of surface electromyography (sEMG) equipment, a biofeedback-based treatment, would allow us to track patients' progress during swallowing rehabilitation exercises until they are able to swallow normally again. Besides treating our patients, sEMG will also help our students gain invaluable experience in assessing and treating people with swallowing disorders and becoming placed in competitive graduate-level externships.
Please consider joining us with your gift today to reach our $3,000 goal and to better support our students and the patient community!
